6 P1800 Magasinet nr 2 - 2018 7 P1800 Magasinet nr 2 - 2018 REPORTAGE (Continue on the next page) E xcept a real ownership of the Volvo P1800, as the eleven at the same time in varied condition, but still setting color in the area and even filling a barn at the parents' home in Lumsheden, Leif was a professional in his father's paint company, thereby staining Svärdsjö with the surrounding area both indoors and outdoors. S värdsjö, a small urban area just 30 km northeast of Falun, is perhaps best known because it was here that Gustav Vasa ended up in a hurry. Or that Björn Borg, in principle, commuted here from Södertälje in the early 1970s in his eagerness to meet girlfriend Helena Anliot, she also played elite tennis player. Here, too, the almost 79-year-old Leif Sö- derlund, born scarcely two months before 2: 2hrs outbreak, lives with his wife Siv as he met in 1963. He has owned a number of different cars over the years in addition to the P1800, and I want to mention some of these in addition to the ownership of the P1800, because there are models that I believe in one way or another put an impression in history. In the case of the P1800 he had, when the "quephysterin" was the largest eleven, let alone five of them be executable. From peoples- to class cars A car to the people, that's how Hitler intro- duced Volkswagen on the market. A car that everyone, the people, could afford. Without a thought of Hitler, a Volkswagen Leif's first car, a VW 1300 of 59-year-old model, was bought the same year as it came out immediately after muck from the Dalregement in Falun. He would have been able to descend through Europe the following year, but chose, for the sake of simplicity, trains. He had been given the opportunity to witness the Olympic Games in Rome, from first to last. It is not so stupid to have a father as a manager, Leif had begun to devote himself to the painter who would follow him for the rest of his professional life. Imagine that live see, for example, the "black gaselle", Wilma Rudolph, sprinting home gold at both 100 and 200 meters. Or to viewMuhammadAli, then, as Cassius Clay, boxed in lightweight heavyweight. The man who shouted out "I'm the greatest" and coined the phrase "dance like a butterfly and stick like a bee." Gold medal of course. Perhaps he also joi- ned the boxing story's most famous match, Rumble in the Jungle, in October 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaire where Ali recalled the title in heavyweight against George Foreman, a title he lost three years earlier to Joe Frazier. Must mention an Olympic giant to the American debut player Al Oerter who took his second Olympic gold in Rome. It would be followed by another two Olympic gold, ie four gold in four Olympic games in a row. Then a grindstone is to be drawn. Well at home, it was not until the "people" had done their thing, change makes sense when you have cars as an interest. Already in the winter of 1962 (the purchase receipt remains), a Mercedes 190 SL was on the properties in Svärdsjö, bought from a sports journalist at Gävle Dagblad. "I regret that I sold or swapped in, but the times were different when Leif said in the early sixties. "Today I wanted to have it left, partly because it was a nice car, partly because it is today a sought after collector that it would be fun to be owner of. But on the other hand, I became the owner of a P1800, he finished smiling. But before it disappears from Leif's pos- session, he is traveling with a very special trip to Storsteinnes, a small town south of Tromsø in the municipality of Balsfjord. During the war, three Norwegian brothers lived, who, like many others, moved the Germans across the border to Sweden at Leif's grandfather and grandmother in Lumsheden where they were placed by the Swedish authorities. Now, 1962, seventeen years after the end of the war, Leif thought it was time to greet them and without war- ning. With him, he took the mate Göran, whose parents also had a Norrman living at his place during the war. The route went up along the north coast, further through Karesuando and Treriksröset down to Stor- steinnes. Of the four, only three remained in life, two were professional fishermen, the third that Leif felt most worked on dairy and was named Harald. It was a very rewarding meeting, the joy was total and guessing if Harald was surprised when Leif and Göran entered the dairy. That journey still raises warm feelings with Leif, it is visible to him and it is heard of the innerness when he tells the story. At the same time there is a splash of vodka, after all, it was in very special circumstances that they lived with grandpa and grandmother. In 1971 Harald made a visit to Svärdsjö. 25 year- car as Roger Moore As a painter, it was not only a job in Svärdsjö, but the company also took the assignments that were received in the immediate area. Such a job was the task of painting internally in a car company in Sandviken in the spring of 1964. In comes a customer with his next new P1800, a pencil gray 63th, as a replacement car for another purchase. Leif gets eyes like Marty Feldman, and just like Oscar Wilde coined; "I can resist everything but temptations," it became for Leif to replace his Mercedes with this P1800. Mercan was the lightning star of the company, one had "the customer on the thread" so to speak. The same day, the salesman goes down to Stockholm by car and comes home empty-handed. The car was basically new and was in good condition, so it was no wonder to go on a long journey with the beauty of the sum- mer. He and his wife Karin set the P1800 and go straight to Mörsil in Jämtland where Leif's in-laws live on a farm. Up there Leif celebrates 25 years on the 6th of July. That day, he starts brushing two decimeters of snow from the car that fell during the night. He filled a barn with the P1800 In the middle of the Pyeongchang Olympic Games, we were able to find a gap that does not collide with cross-country skiing or shooting. The club's missionary met Leif Söder- lund in Svärdsjö, which in many ways has put the color on the resort. A relaxed Leif Söderlund in his only remaining P1800, a white 61th, A picture from the early 90's, the 61th to the right, purchased iTäby1991 and co-driver number 283. On the left the 65th bought in Gävle 1990 with chassis number12508. Both are sold today, the first to Sandviken and the other to Falun. The child in the picture is one of the grandchildren, Alexandra. This is what it might been have seen at the garage uphill a number of years ago. Two P1800, a 69th green shade which was one of the inaugural cars for the A-Ford 1992. The white is a 61th purchase in Hässleby in 1993, and it still has Leif left today. There is also the Amazon, one of four as Leif owns, a 67th purchased in 1999.. A pair of "wrecks" in the previously so well-stocked barn with P1800 and spare parts. Now the carosses are gone and much of the loose parts has been sold in markets and to private buyers who have heard about this. In just two markets, for example, he sold stuff for 45000 crowns.
